How to Overcome Disappointment

We’ve experienced disappointment, that unhappy feeling stemming from something or someone not being or doing something we expected or hoped for (Webster’s dictionary).  We feel let down like all hope is gone.  If we’re not careful, we can fall into depression, questioning ourselves, God, and other people.

Disappointment causes us to take our eyes off God and the hope that lies with Him.  Instead, we focus on the disappointing circumstances.  Have you ever noticed how hard it is to pull yourself out of the funk you experience because of disappointment?  It’s almost as if the situation keeps replaying in your mind.  How can you hear the good news God has for you if you keep replaying Satan’s message of disappointment, rejection, and hurt?

In God, there’s not only hope but the peace, joy, confidence, and instructions that we need.  The enemy knows this and tries to hinder us from hearing that beautiful message of hope that only the Lord can bring.  No matter how dark, hurtful, or harmful the situation seems, God can change it.

Disappointment arises when we can’t see the possibilities in our situations.  Although it seems impossible to you, it isn’t impossible for the great and mighty God.  Luke 1:37 reminds us, “For nothing is impossible with God.”  So, don’t be disappointed.  Redirect your hope to an unfailing God and watch Him work it out in due season.
